Broncos Linebacker Jonathon Cooper Faces New Charges After Second Arrest in a Week
Denver Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper was arrested again by Parker (Colo.) police Thursday night and faces four new charges, including misdemeanor harassment and violation of a protective order, jail records show.
Cooper is due to be in court Friday morning.
It was the second arrest in a week for Cooper, who was previously arrested last Friday on charges stemming from a domestic incident with his girlfriend. Cooper was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief following his initial arrest. He pleaded not guilty to that charge in a court appearance Monday.
However, court records show, as first reported by The Denver Post, that Cooper now faces two additional charges stemming from the incident: a felony charge of second-degree assault by strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault for knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury.
“We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper’s arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter,” the Broncos said in a statement Friday morning.
“We continue to monitor all developments in the matter, which remains under review of the personal conduct policy,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement later Friday morning.
