Simone Biles Reveals Health Scare: 'Almost Dying Wasn't on My Bingo Card'
Simone Biles experienced a medical emergency earlier this week that she described as “one of, if not the scariest experience of my life,” according to a story posted to her Instagram account on Saturday afternoon.
Without disclosing the specific nature of the emergency, the most decorated gymnast in Olympic history wrote that she nearly died as a result.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age. But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week,” Biles wrote.
The 29-year-old posted a series of photos to her story, with the first showing her right arm extended, adorned with three medical-type bracelets. Text detailing the emergency — which she said occurred while her husband, Indianapolis Colts safety Jonathan Owens, was out of town for team practices — captioned the initial photo.
“I’ve been in bed resting this week, I’ll explain sooner or later but s/o to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited & or sent flowers. Loooovveeee y’all.”
The next two photos in the story showed a collection of floral bouquets, and the story concluded with a photo captioned “I’ll be here” showing a bed with two dogs, along with a screenshot of a heart-rate monitor.
Biles has won 11 Olympic medals in her gymnastics career, seven of them gold, and 30 World Championship medals.
